Description
Galvalume is a zinc, aluminium, and silicon coating that is used to protect a metal (primarily steel) from oxidation. It is a sacrificial metal coating that protects the base metal, similar to galvanising.
Applications
Galvalume is primarily used to protect rust-prone iron-based alloys. Because zinc and aluminium protect the underlying steel from the environment, galvalume-coated steel resists oxidation better than plain carbon steel. The zinc will also oxidise faster than the steel it comes into contact with. This is comparable to galvanised steel.
